The course prepares adults to create a nurturing, thoughtfully prepared environment that fosters trust, autonomy, and respect for the toddler’s natural developmental rhythms.

  • Parents and caregivers who wish to apply Montessori principles at home during the earliest years of development

  • Early childhood educators and caregivers looking to deepen their understanding of toddler development and Montessori methodology

  • Individuals interested in starting or working in a crèche, daycare centre, or early learning environment

Course Format

To accommodate diverse learners, the course is offered in a hybrid format:

  • Practical Sessions: Conducted entirely onsite at the Kalpagam Centre with 100% attendance mandatory.

This structure allows for flexibility in academic study while ensuring full immersion in the essential practical aspects of Montessori training.

Course Content

Theory:

Delivered through a blend of online and onsite classes, the theory component of the Toddler Montessori Teacher Training Course lays a strong intellectual foundation in early childhood education, specifically for children aged 1½ to 3 years. It covers key areas such as Child Development in the First Sub-Plane (0–3 years), Child Psychology, and the foundations of early learning, helping trainees understand the rapid cognitive, emotional, and physical growth that occurs during this stage. The course explores core Montessori principles and philosophy, with a focus on supporting the toddler’s emerging independence, movement, language, and personality development. Trainees will gain insight into the role of the adult in creating a calm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate prepared environment. They will also learn the importance of observation and reflective practice as essential tools in understanding and guiding young children. These theory sessions equip trainees to thoughtfully and confidently apply Montessori methods in real-world toddler care and learning environments.

Practicals:

Conducted entirely onsite at the Kalpagam Centre, these hands-on sessions are essential to the Toddler Montessori Teacher Training Course, with 100% attendance mandatory. Trainees receive guided practice in supporting gross and fine motor development, language skills, functional independence (eating, toileting, dressing, sleeping), as well as creative expression through art and music activities. They will work with age-appropriate Montessori materials, practice lesson presentations, and receive ongoing feedback from experienced mentors—ensuring they are fully prepared to create nurturing, developmentally appropriate environments for toddlers.

Course Duration

The Toddler Montessori Teacher Training Course at Kalpagam Montessori Academy begins in June, with final exams in April. Theory classes are held twice a week to build a strong foundation in Montessori philosophy, child development in the first sub-plane (0–3 years), and the unique needs of toddlers. Practical sessions are conducted every Saturday and on government holidays at the Kalpagam Centre, offering hands-on experience with toddler-specific Montessori materials and caregiving routines. In addition, trainees will attend four intensive onsite modules in August, October, December, and April, each lasting 1-2 weeks, focused on in-depth practical training, observation skills, and album preparation under expert guidance. These components ensure that trainees gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to support toddlers in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate Montessori environment.
